March 12

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I took Sunday off to let my legs relax.  But I ended up walking around the city all day, so I still made them work!

This morning I got up and did my typical Science World route.  It was a bit tougher today, though.  With the time change, it was a lot darker at 6am and the wind wasn’t much fun to deal with either.

Now I have to get back to work and start locking down some sponsors.  Time is ticking!

March 10

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

I was faced with another rainy day.  But today seemed different.  Maybe it was because I slept in?  Maybe it was because I went on a different route?  Who knows, but I really enjoyed the skate today!

I left my apartment and headed through Stanley Park (Lost Lagoon area).  When I reached Georgia St, I hopped on the sidewalk and followed the traffic through the park to the Lions Gate Bridge.  Once over the bridge, I headed into a neighbourhood near Park Royal.  Now it was time for a real work out!  Up and down a couple streets sure made me sweat (or maybe that was just the rain).  I’ve driven through the Rockies a few times and I think it’s safe to say that the roads, although much longer, are not nearly as steep as the hills I was on today!

Once I was content with my hill training for the day, it was back over the Lions Gate and through Stanley park to my apartment.  Round trip was roughly 25km.  Not too bad in the pouring rain.  And I was only out for about an hour an a half.

Hope it’s not this rainy tomorrow!

Training is going well so far. It has been tough, though.

I wake up at 6am and blade around the Flase Creek seawall. It’s a pretty good course for me since it forces me to practice a bit of everything. There are some great smoothe parts, interlocked areas, rough construction sections and even a few hills (Burrard Bridge). The route I’m doing is roughly 12 km, but it’s a good way to start the day before work.

This week has been tough because I have had to blade through pouring rain on Monday and Wednesday. But I’ll have to face it on my journey, so it’s good to train in it now! I was afraid it would rain on me this morning, but it didn’t. The path was a bit slick, though.

I’m still desperately looking for an RV for my road crew. If anyone has any connections, please let me know. I’ll take whatever I can get, but an RV would be ideal since it would have a fridge and stove.

If you see me blading around the city, don’t forget to say Hi!

I am featured on Page 3 of the Metro today (March 5, ’07). See the full article HERE

What a weird feeling to pick up a paper and see myself on the front page! The article was on page 3, but there was an exerpt with my picture on the front page!

I am told that the Calgary paper also printed the article!

There’s many highs an lows through this entire experience, and this is definitley one of the highs!

Another early morning for another newspaper interview. This time I met with a reporter for Metro.

It turns out that the report is from north of Toronto. She actually went to the same highschool as my best friend! Small world.

Some more light training today. It’s tough to fit everything into my scehdule these days, but I’m managing. All this work sure helps me sleep well at night!

March 03

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

It’s a typical overcast Vancouver day.

Even though it’s Saturday, I had to wake up early to meet a reporter from 24HRS.

This was my first interview, so I was a bit nervous. I really had no idea what to expect, but the report was great and put me at ease. I can’t wait to see the article. It should be coming out soon.

Now that my start date is roughly 2 months away, I’ve start some light training. I’m in pretty good shape since I play soccer and snowboard weekly, but I haven’t been on my blades in a couple months. So I want to start of easy for the first couple days. 10km should be good for today.
